Our Christmas story
At a time when computers were still cracking and monitors were as deep as dwarf helmets, three courageous students sat together in Augsburg and forged a plan. One of them, a young man named Joaquim Moreira dos Santos, was busy writing a manual and didn’t even realize that he was actually laying the foundations for something bigger.
Because while the snowflakes were dancing outside, the three of them were not looking for cookie recipes or poinsettias, but for software. First for the construction industry, then for developers. And so, in 1987, a company was born that nobody knew about at the time, but which is now a reliable star in the software firmament far beyond Augsburg and Herrenberg: SOS Software Service.
The early years were like a journey through a snowy forest: full of opportunities, but with paths that no one had yet taken. The communication channels? Hardly any. Networks? More like a few phone lines and a lot of patience. But Joaquim and his team didn’t give up – they built a network, node by node, vendor by vendor. A network that is still sparkling today, like a string of lights that never gives up the ghost.
In 1994, another adventurer joined the team: Marc Gloning, who helped to refocus the journey and to make the company entirely developer-oriented. The world of software was changing, and SOS Software Service was changing with it – sometimes faster, sometimes slower, but always forwards.
Over the years, this has resulted in a distribution network that would make even Santa Claus green with envy. After all, even the old man in the red coat knows how important a good distribution network is.
And since 2010 at the latest, when SOS Software Service dedicated itself entirely to distribution, the company has become a guide for vendors, resellers and anyone who needs digital tools. A bit like the helpers in the Christmas workshop – only without pointy shoes, but with a lot of expertise.
And this is where SOS Software Service stands today: with 70 dedicated people, two locations, a global network and a heart that shines a little brighter every year – especially during the festive and reflective season.
Merry Christmas and a good start into the New Year
